Know Your Body
Tip 1: Learn What's Normal for You
Every woman's breasts are different. Take time to understand how your breasts normally look and feel so you can notice any changes. There's no "right" way to check—just be familiar with your own body.
Tip 2: Look for These Warning Signs
Contact your doctor if you notice: a new lump or mass, swelling, skin irritation or dimpling, breast or nipple pain, nipple discharge (other than breast milk), or any change in the size or shape of the breast.
Tip 3: Self-Exams Save Lives
While mammograms are crucial, monthly self-exams help you stay aware of changes. The best time is a few days after your period ends when breasts are least tender.
Tip 4: Men Can Get Breast Cancer Too
Though rare, men account for about 1% of all breast cancer cases. Men should also be aware of unusual lumps or changes in their chest area.
